- String variables are declared by using the string type, however as strings aren't actually 'primitive' types in C (and are instead defined by the standard library of stuff that comes bundled with C), you are required to #include string to use this data-type. An example of string declaration and initialization to a string constant is as.

- Printf prototype int printf( const char. format. ); The printf function writes the string pointed to by format to stdout. The string format may contain format specifiers starting with% which are replaced by the values of variables that are passed to the printf function as additional arguments. It is defined in header file.
The usefulness of the 'Hello World' programs shown in the previous section is quite questionable. We had to write several lines of code, compile them, and then execute the resulting program just to obtain a simple sentence written on the screen as result.
This table lists the base data types that are supported by the Windows Runtime, and indicates the corresponding type in C#, Visual Basic, and C++.

Depending on how it's used, a variable of __wchar_t designates either a wide-character type or multibyte-character type. Use the
L
prefix before a character or string constant to designate the wide-character-type constant.signed and unsigned are modifiers that you can use with any integral type except bool. Note that char, signed char, and unsigned char are three distinct types for the purposes of mechanisms like overloading and templates.
The int and unsigned int types have a size of four bytes. However, portable code should not depend on the size of int because the language standard allows this to be implementation-specific.
C/C++ in Visual Studio also supports sized integer types. For more information, see __int8, __int16, __int32, __int64 and Integer Limits.
For more information about the restrictions of the sizes of each type, see Built-in types.
The range of enumerated types varies depending on the language context and specified compiler flags. For more information, see C Enumeration Declarations and Enumerations.
